On paper, this event looked like it would be a good race betweending defending champion USF, Texas A&M, Houston, and GC Foster. But after the gun went off, USF showed the crowd that they did not want to give up their crown so easily as they easily made up the stagger by the first exchange. The only team who was able to keep up with them was GC Foster. By the anchor leg, USF made a clear gap on the field and bested the field by over a second. Texas A&M was in fourth place going into the final exchange but the raw speed of anchor leg Auhmad Robinson brought the Aggies from fourth to second place.
