It’s not often that the new record notes come from second place finishers, but as the top US team, Bullis makes the mark. Their time of 3:06.31 sets a new US High School record for the 4x400, previously held by California’s Hawthorne 1985 squad (3:07.40). It is also the new fastest US team at Penn, besting Long Beach Poly’s 2007 time of 3:09.89. Quincy Wilson is now the holder of the fastest high school 400 split at the Relays with his blazing time of 43.99, bettering his 44.37 from last year. Excelsior was the first to reach the break pole, followed closely by Calabar and three-time defending champion Kingston College. Bullis - top qualifier from the preliminary round - was steps back in 4th place. At the second exchange, Excelsior, Kingston College, Calabar, and Bullis went through in that order. Kingston College passed Excelsior halfway through the leg, Calabar made up ground, getting even with Kingston College just before the final exchange. Bullis has fallen back to 5th place, about 20m behind the leaders going into the anchor leg. Kingston College pulled even with Calabar with 250m to go in the race. Bullis’ anchor Quincy Wilson charged hard, ultimately moving into third place in the middle of the final curve and pulling even with Calabar by the end of the final curve. Kingston College maintained a two step lead over Bullis, holding the lead all the way through the finish in 3:05.93 over Bullis (3:06.31 - new US National Record) and Calabar (3:06.52).
